  • The Intensive
    English Program

This is the flagship program offered by MEI. If you are an international student and you want to improve your English as quickly as possible, then this is the program for you. You’ll study full-time (23 hours per week, Monday through Friday) while focusing on English to help you prepare for a successful 21st century career.

Every class in the Intensive English Program begins with a careful examination of your English language needs. Trained professionals then customize their teaching to focus on those areas of English where you need the most improvement. Small class sizes mean you get individual attention and plenty of practice time.

All classes are taught by patient, expert instructors. Holding at least a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or a related field, they work closely with you to help you reach your goals. All have a proven track record, many having taught abroad. Most have mastered at least one foreign language, which prepares them to help you meet the challenges you face.

    the Local Area

Maryland is one of the original 13 states that made up the United States.  Maryland has such a rich range of natural features – bays, beaches, capes, cliffs, waterfalls, forests, islands, lakes, mountain ranges, white-water rapids, rivers, streams – that the state is nicknamed “America in Miniature.” Maryland is a great place to study and live, and with Washington D.C. a quick drive away, you are never far from the excitement and attractions of the nation’s capital city.

There are parks, beaches, mountains, forests, and countryside. The Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the United States, is also in Maryland.

Weather in Maryland is usually comfortable, and Maryland has four seasons. The average temperature in summer is around 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), while the average temperature in winter is around 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius). Spring and fall are very beautiful, with mild temperatures and bright sunlight.

  • Testimonials

People in MD and DC are very kind and always treat me well. There are many museums and nature areas so I can absorb lots of knowledge. What I like about MEI are the instructors. They are always available and if I have any questions, they can help me until I understand completely. I also think it is great to meet and make friends with people from all over the world.
    – Hisayuki Ebihara, Japan

We had a wonderful teacher, who was not just a highly qualified professor but whose classes were never boring, who gave us really valuable advice (which I still use every day), who was very interested in our progress, who worked a lot individually with all of us, who met our needs and weak sides with great respect, and who showed us that to study a new language is a great pleasure. And our professor was not the exception at MEI. He was the rule.
    – Regina Revazova, Russia

MEI offers the place, the time and the environment you need to overcome your fears and learn what it takes to communicate in English not only in class, but in campus life and everyday life. It helped me a lot to get those conversational skills that you can only get in this kind of environment.
    – Daniel Coral, Colombia

My English language level wasn’t beginner when I first came to MEI so I thought it would be challenging to make much improvement, but after having studied at MEI, many native English speaker friends have told me how strong and fluent my English has become.
